This Scrappy Green Caterpillar PDF quilt pattern makes a generously sized crib or toddler bed quilt at 42" x 54".
This quilt was designed as a scrap buster for your green fabric scraps. You will need 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" scraps as well as 2 1/2" wide strips.
You could use jelly roll strips and layer cake squares too if you wish.
You will also need 2 yards of background fabric and some red and black solid fabrics.
All fabric requirements and cutting instructions are included in the pattern. This fun quilt is a confident beginner level quilt pattern. If you can sew an accurate 1/4" seam on a sewing machine and cut with a rotary cutter and mat then you can make this quilt.
The pattern includes computer graphics with directions to piece the caterpillar faces and leaves and a computer generated quilt diagram along with written directions.
There are also photos of the finished sample quilt in the pattern. If you wish to make a larger quilt you could add more caterpillars and/or borders.
You are purchasing a pattern (not a finished quilt.) You will receive a PDF file of the pattern when you check out. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software (free from Adobe) to view the file.
Fabric Requirements:
1 fat quarter of red solid
1 - 6 inch square piece of black solid (you might get by with a five inch square if you cut carefully)
2 yards of white solid scraps of green fabrics totalling about 2 yards – you will need 36 4 ½” x 6 ½” rectangles as well as multiple 2 ½” strip pieces of two lengths (see cutting instructions)
1 ½ yards of backing*
½ yard of binding (or make a scrappy binding)
1 ½ yards of batting*
*Note: These are minimum requirements. If you like to have a wider area of batting and backing around the edges of the quilt for quilting you may wish to buy more. The amount listed here for the backing does not require piecing and leaves very little waste.
